Dear Agnes

How are you? I hope you're well. I've been having fun in school and hope you're doing well too!

I heard that you won the inter-school badminton championship! Congratulations! It has been a long and tedious journey of training for you! I think you deserve to win this very much and I am very happy for you! Congratulations again!

Do write back soon. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you!

Yours truly,
Mary-jane

If I had a million dollars - by Ms. Eunice

If I had a million dollars, I would be ecstatic. After some calculations with my class, though, $1,000,000 did not seem like a lot of money. Hence, after some careful consideration, I decided that I would spend my hypothetical $1,000,000 in this way: bestow some on my parents, invest some, and start a business with the rest of it.

I would first give my parents some of the money, maybe about $100,000. They have been taking care of me since I was born, and all my education, food and various needs and wants were paid for by them. Hence, it is only right and proper that I show my gratitude by bestowing a large sum of money on them.

Secondly, I would invest or save about $800,000. After doing some research on the Internet and talking to a friend who works in United Overseas Bank, I have decided on investing via buying the shares of certain companies. Even though shares are the most risky, they promise the highest returns too - 10.7%, according to the Investment Management Association of Singapore*. That would mean I get $85600 more without doing anything at all!!

Thirdly, I would use $100,000 to start a bookshop which houses a small cafe. Books are my passion. I love reading and want to create a place where people can go to read and enjoy themselves. With this business, I will not be working, but doing what I really love to do.

This plan has made me very excited about using my money wisely. Now that I have thought carefully about what I want to do with my money, I believe that, even without a financial windfall like winning one million dollars in a competition, I can also take care of my parents as well as fulfil my dream of opening a bookshop.

Nurarina Diyana Survey

The place in my school I surveyed was the area behind the ART Gallery. The place is windy and spacious to learn over there. From where I’m sitting I can see East Point Mall beside the HDB flat that opposite from our school. I can also see the MRT track that is beside the East Point Mall. It’s a bit deserted at night and I think nobody wants to go there.

However, some improvements can be made to this place. They can place more furniture such as plant, some gallery, sofa and some junk food machines at the corner of the gallery. The teacher can also bring the student visit over there.

Shiwei Survey

The place in my school I surveyed was the area behind the art gallery. it was very spacious, there were only 3 to 4 yellow benches and blue table, it was quite bare since there was only a few objects in that open space. The walls were a bit run down; there were some old art pieces, done by ex-students.
However, some improvement can be made to this place, for example change the walls to Enclosed the area with glass door and replace the benches with more comfortable benches and put a vending machine and replace the old art pieces with Speakers With powerful base and make it into a party disco place.

Ariff Yan Survey

The place in my school I surveyed was the area behind the Art Gallery. The places were so windy and bare. The place is so spacious like a badminton court. The walls are full of art pieces. The Art Gallery have a better view. The walls are so beautiful because of the Art pieces and the colourful paints.

“However, some improvements can be made to this place.” The wall can be paint with colourful and brighter colours because the old colour is dark and dirty. We can put more chairs and bigger tables. The place should put Television and Radio because if the students are bored they can watch the television or they can hear music from the radio. They can also put a drink machine and a snack machine at there so that if the students are hungry or thirsty they can just buy from the machine so they will not waste their time to go to the canteen.

Iffah Survey

The place in my school I surveyed was the area behind the Art Gallery. The place is uncluttered but it is too bare. It’s windy and spacious to learn at there. I also can see East Point Mall, MRT tracks, some HDB flats and I even can see my house from here. It’s a bit deserted at night and I think nobody wants to go there and it’s a little bit creepy for me.

However, some improvements can be made to this place. They should make it not too bare and put some entertainment things to entertain us. They also can put some furniture such as sofa, some tables and some junk food machines. I want it to be more relaxed so that more people can come to this place and it won’t be too deserted or it will be dilapidated.

Edmund Survey

The place in my school I survey was the area behind the Art Gallery. It is very spacious; there were very little things like 4 to 5 yellow benches and blue tables and around 3 to 4 fans on the ceiling. It was very bare. There were 3 to 4 plants on the floor there were old art pieces done by previous art students who have gradated from our school.
However, some improvements can be made to this place. For example more comfortable chairs and tables more new fans and maybe a vending machine and more and bigger plants. So that it will not look so empty.
